The Cold Spring Tots Park is a great little playground for kids under 6. The Friends of the Tots Park is a group of volunteers that support the park and its ongoing maintenance. This blog was created to share our thoughts about the park and discuss our plans for its future.

We love this park! The plan looks great.
Every park needs a sand box!!!!!
Does anyone know the rules governing the use of the park in relation to residency of Philipstown?
What are others views of "out of towners" using tha park?
The Park is village property and is open to the public.
Personally, I love meeting tourists who visit the park as well as people from the neighboring towns: it makes me proud to tell them I'm from Cold Spring, coz everyone always loves our park!
As an "out of towner", I'd like say how much we love the tot park. We're from Beacon and several other parents from Beacon bring their little ones to the tot park. Its a great opportunity for the kids to meet eachother not to mention the parents. Lets make a deal...we let you use our galleries and restaurants and you let us use your park...thanks, see you at the tot park!
I think the proposed plan looks great! I would keep the sand box as is though. I think everyone loves that sand box and a smaller one just wouldn't be the same. I have to say I just saw the new elementary school playground and I don't get it.....my kindergartener said, "yeah it's just a bunch poles and were not allowed on any of it!" I really don't get the design at all...If anyone wants to see an amazing park check out the one in Beacon by the river. The kids like to climb and have something to hang on. I wouldn't have any fear of one big twisted slide either. They are all constructed in a way that does not allow the children to slide down fast and they basically come to a complete stop at the end. I see mothers get very concerned about the children on our slide unnecessarily. My son is a dare devil since he could walk. He launches himself down that tunnel slide head first and has never fallen out the end. He also launches himself down the big slides in Beacon and again, never came flying out the end!
My 11-month old ADORES the climbing/sliding structure. She squeals with delight on the covered shoot and the twisted slide and would go up and down for hours. Is there a safety concern here? I certainly don't have one as I've never seen anyone hurt and never fear that my kid will be hurt. Having said that, I do watch carefully as one always should. Frankly, I think that many parents OBSESS about safety and end up taking a lot of the fun out of playgrounds. I know that I played on far less "safe" equipment and am no worse for wear. Unless there has been an incident in which a child has been hurt, I say relax and let the fun reign!
The plans look great. Do any other parents use the Haldane Park?
I just visited the “new” park area with my kids and was very confused as to what and who that new area is for? Have any other parents seen this new park yet? It would be interesting to hear some other opinions. I am writing on this blog in ensure we get usable equipment that can actually be played on.
Thank you for all your hard work on this project.
There are so many interesting playground concepts out there. Here's another neat approach -- portable playgrounds:

Hi,
Also check out the wonderful tot park at Memorial park in Beacon - they were able to make 3 parks in one -
tot, 2-5, and 5-12.
Love this tot lot and don't mind out of towners using it...I go to a lot of other parks and would be devastated if I couldn't go because of residency. As for the climber/slide...it does need to be a little more challenging for the 3-6 year olds and I'm NOT a fan of the chain link/wobble bridge....I've seen it and my child has been a victim of it...falling through the links at a young age (1 - 1 1/2). As for the sandbox...I do like the size of it and kids and sand just go well together...there are always kids playing in it. With that said, a lot of the kids do play with the 'toys' that are dropped in the sand area (slides, small obstacle houses, etc.) and if that can be replaced with some type of climbing/obstacle structure without jeopardizing a decent sand area, I'm all for it! I love the different age group structures at the Beacon playground, but not fond of the small sand area. Can't wait to see the upgrade!!
Nice playground.
I stopped by with my 2 2/3 year-old on Saturday, on the way home from Dia: Beacon (another great playground).
My son really loved the sandbox and begged to stay even though it was 45 degrees and windy.
