Love the plan to include equipment for the bigger kids, but I am concerned about the location. Would it not make it more difficult to keep an eye on your little ones having such a large structure in the middle? Just a thought. Keep up the great work!!!

Is the new equipment environmentally safe/sustainable? Also- would it be possible to set up some permanent musical chimes, steel drums, etc for the children to use? We took our kids to an amazing tot park in Easton, Maryland called Idlewild Park and they had these really cool, permanent, musical structures. They were also really pleasing to the eye....

The manufacturer, Playworld Systems, says "We use materials with the highest recycled/recyclable content possible without sacrificing the quality of the product." For example, all their plastic timbers, planks, posts, and aluminum spring mates are 100% recycled and recyclable, as are all the packaging materials they use (like wooden shipping pallets and cardboard boxes). Steel elements are 40-98% recyclable, and so on. There may be more info at http://www.playworldsystems.com

What about the possiblility of repairing the existing equipment?

It is actually less cost effective (ie nearly as costly) to properly retrofit almost twenty year old equipment than it is to purchase brand new equipment that meets current safety standards.

I really like the idea of swapping old equpiment for new equipment.

I really really really don't like the idea of changing the sandbox.

The use of synthetic materials (like tires or rubber chips) includes all of the chemicals and metals that go into those products. On hot days, they off-gas and become airborne and breathable, a problem for asthmatics and respitory development.

I don't like the idea of older kids at the tots park.
Although my tot loves the place, and it will be a bummer to leave it behind, I think it best to reserve this place so that tots can go and feel comfortable and not over-crowded by the bigger kids.

Having lived in other communities, I would have to say that the tots park is a special place. I think if it changes it will be just like all the other over-crowded uninteresting playgrounds you see
and I won't be going there. This plan is well-intended, but short-sighted. Please reconsider.

Why not just leave it alone or get new equipment. So what if it's messy? They're tots!!!

Why not focus on another site.

I agree. The Tots Park is currently designed for kids aged 0-5, and I don't think anyone has proposed to change that emphasis. It's pretty special to have a safe place dedicated solely to the little ones.

Hi, just a few things. First, tots are up to 5~6 yrs., no need to redesign for older kids. Second, musical chimes? drums? NOOOO Thank you, this is a peaceful location and at times can be loud enough. Third, the entry from High St.. How about a walkway that flows with the path of the existing tree line. ie in from the street, head north, turn and head east and then turn and head north to enter park. A kind of reverse 's'. You could do it in sections with either pavers or concrete staped or formed-stone,brick etc. Good Luck
